Dalai Lama to be in Ladakh During his 83rd Birthday

The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama has acknowledged the request from the people of Ladakh for his visit to the region during this summer as he is confirmed to visit there according to the breaking report in the Voice of Tibet in July. The visit will see His Holiness gracing the local people’s event celebrating his 83rd birthday.

A Ladakhi delegation from Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) and All Ladakh Gonpa Association (LGA) which included LBA President Tsewang Thinles, LGA President Gelong Shedup Chamba, LBA Vice Presidents, Rinchen Namgyal and P.T Kunzang, General Secretary Sonam Dawa and CWC member Lobzang Stanba, had called upon the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama early April this year and had requested for his visit to their region this summer.

The Tibetan spiritual who has a series of talks and teachings scheduled in Lithuania and Latvia during the middle of June will be arriving in Leh, Ladakh on July 3 and according to the report in VOT, His Holiness will be gracing the event organized in the celebration of his 83rd birthday at the Shiwatsel Palace in Ladakh by the people of the region.

From the tentative schedule of three weeks stay in Ladakh, His Holiness is also reportedly scheduled to visit Nubri from July 14, where he will give a teaching for local public among other programs. According to the Ladhaki delegates who made the request of the visit, they promised to ensure a complete rest for His Holiness during the summer sojourn.

“We will ensure your holiness for a complete rest and a peaceful summer sojourn in Ladakh. We do hope your holiness compassionately considers our earnest request,” told the letter of request for the visit by the Ladakhi delegate earlier this year.

Despite cutting down most of the long distance foreign schedules of His Holiness in order to ensure proper rest for the spiritual leader experiencing growing exhaustion due to his advanced age, there are a continued schedule of programs lined up for him to attend to. The visit to Europe this month will the first foreign travel for His Holiness.
