Dalai Lama to Grace First Convocation of Central University of Jammu

According to the concerned officials, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be addressing the first convocation of the Central University of Jammu. The Tibetan spiritual leader is expected to grace the university’s first convocation ceremony as the chief guest on coming Sunday, March 18, 2017.

“Nobel laureate and the 14th Dalai Lama would be the chief guest at the convocation, during which PhD degrees, PG degrees, gold medals and merit certificates would be conferred on the candidates who had successfully completed their study programmes till the year 2017.” Central University of Jammu, CUJ Registrar Ravi Kumar said according to the report in Business Standard on Wednesday.

Union minister Jitendra Singh and former chief of Army staff N C Vij are also reported to attend the convocation ceremony where they will be receiving degrees of doctor of philosophy, honoris causa, from Central University of Jammu.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama has reportedly skipped the 105th edition of Indian Science Congress which will witness the Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivering the inaugural speech following a strategic diplomatic move from Indian government in its policy on dealing with China.

His Holiness is presently presiding over the 33rd Mind & Life Conference at the Main Temple in Dharamshala attended by more 200 scientists from around the world. The Tibetan spiritual leader is also scheduled to grace an event from Central Tibetan Administration on March 17 at Dharamshala, that commemorates the 60th year of the Dalai Lama’s departure from Lhasa, Tibet to exile.
