Current Dalai Lama Said His Successor Could Come from India

The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama during a recent interview by the Reuters explained that his successor could come from India. His Holiness explained the possibility that China would appoint a candidate for the next Dalai Lama to assert their authority over the Tibetan Buddhists.

The Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, said on Monday it was possible that once he dies his incarnation could be found in India, where he has lived in exile for 60 years, and warned that any other successor named by China would not be respected, according to the report in The Wire.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama fled from Tibet after a failed uprising by the Tibetans against the Chinese army in March, 1959 and sought refuge in India. Since then, a Tibetan administration was set up in India and carried out the Tibetan struggle in exile for the past 60 years advocating peace and non violent ways to resolve the issue.

The Tibetan spiritual leader was conferred with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 among thousands of other felicitations recognizing his initiatives and messages of world peace, non violence, religious harmony, environment protection, human rights and so on.

His Holiness explained in the interview that China considers the Dalai Lama’s reincarnation as something very important. They have more concern about the next Dalai Lama than him. In future, in case you see two Dalai Lamas come, one from here, in free country, one chosen by Chinese, then nobody will trust, nobody will respect (the one chosen by China). So that’s an additional problem for the Chinese! It’s possible, it can happen.
