Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) in Dharamshala is set to distribute 10 million rupees corona relief fund among Tibetan refugees. Following the outbreak of coronavirus from Wuhan, China, the whole came to a halt, resulting to a distressful livelihood. India entered into a state of complete lock down since the later part of March this year.
Coronavirus is a highly infectious novel virus that originated from Wuhan in China. Soon after it spread from China, the virus turned into the worst ever pandemic in the history of this world. Due to highly contagious nature of the virus, countries have been forced to implement strict lock down as a precautionary measure. It has disrupted the livelihood of common people and the economy at large.
With the largest number Tibetan refugees based in India, Nepal and Bhutan, the lock down has hit hard on their livelihoods. CTA which functions in the same manner as an exile government invited applications from distressed and stranded Tibetans for relief fund. It has now finalized to payout a relief fund of 10 million rupees to be distributed equally among 2000 distressed applicants as corona relief fund.
“The Department of Home, CTA has received a total of 2000 number of applications for the support fund through respective Tibetan settlement offices across India, Nepal, and Bhutan. These applications will be further reviewed by Nodal Officers of the Department of Home to ensure that the applicants fulfill the basic criteria to avail of this emergency support.” reported the official website of Central Tibetan Administration on Thursday.
Department of Education Kalon, Mrs. Pema Yangchen had earlier announced of dispensing relief packages of Rs 2000 to 297 students of below poverty line and Rs 5000 relief for 200 college students, which includes 50 students below poverty line. The administration also made special provisions by sending relief funds amounting to more than 16 million rupees in advance for the distressed elders and students.
