Dharamshala, 24th October: Last year, the Indian government took a dramatic step by prohibiting 220 Chinese apps from being used in the nation. Authorities are now targeting Chinese smartphone makers with notifications asking for details on the data and components used in the devices, according to a new report, as a result of security worries. The brands in question include Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, and OnePlus, which together account for more than half of the Indian smartphone market, according to The Morning Context.
The goal of the study is to see if the cellphones sold by these Chinese companies are safe to use in India. The Indian government is expected to issue another notice requesting the testing of these gadgets in response to the initial request for data and component specifications.
According to ‘The Morning Context’, some of the investments pledged to the government by the four Chinese enterprises were not fulfilled. Among the companies named, Oppo, Vivo, and its sub-brand iQoo had the greatest investment plans that were not pursued. However, considering that Xiaomi has previously made investments, it is unclear why Xiaomi is participating in this issue, according to the article.
According to The Economic Times, the notifications are part of a larger crackdown on Chinese businesses in India. It could be linked to the government’s investigation of components used by Chinese telecom companies like Huawei and ZTE. Hardware and software details, notably pre-installed apps on Chinese cellphones, may be scrutinized, according to the report. These Chinese brands are purportedly terrified as a result of the letters being sent out because there is no clarity on how the investigation will be conducted or what will happen next.
As previously reported, after a government evaluation found that Chinese gadgets had built-in censorship capabilities, the Defense Ministry of Lithuania recommended consumers avoid purchasing Chinese mobile phones and dispose of those they already had.
According to Lithuania’s state-run cybersecurity authority, Xiaomi Corp’s flagship phones offered in Europe have the ability to detect and ban phrases like “Free Tibet,” “Long live Taiwan independence,” and “democracy movement.”
