With growing tension along the border, Indians are brewing anti-China sentiment which is making Chinese nationals in India anxious. The fallout along Tibetan borders in Ladakh, Indian nationals are calling out for boycott of Chinese products. Besides, number of Indians are calling for a tit for tat response to China, making Chinese in the country anxious.
The Chinese nationals fearing backlash from growing anti-China sentiments among Indians, those in the country are not getting out of their houses. According to the general secretary of India China Economic & Cultural Council, the Chinese in India are worried about their security and well being.
“They (Chinese families) don’t want to speak to the media. They are not going out and are worried about their security and well being. Their families are also worried back home,” Mohammed Saqib, secretary general of the India China Economic & Cultural Council, told PTI.
While very few Chinese spoke to the media and expressed their trust in the warm nature of Indians, rest are anxious to speak out. With the Monday night incident in Galwan valley, Ladakh, the worst military confrontation between India and China since 1967, it is natural for the Chinese to be anxious. However, the situation is not easy as to speak with China blaming over India despite intruding farther in the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The incident took place during a time of agreed disengagement from the protracted stand off between the two armies in the Galwan region in Ladakh. Twenty Indian soldiers including a colonel has been martyred while China has reported more than 43 casualties from the scuffle.
Dr. Sangay, President of exile Tibetan administration recently explained that there was no tension along the borders for India before China occupied Tibet. Since Chinese invasion of Tibet, there has been border incursions along India’s borders. He added that solving the issue of Tibet is the key to solving long standing border disputes between the two Asian giants.
