Former employee of Alibaba’s UC Web, Pushpandra Singh Parmar, has alleged the company used to censor content seen as unfavorable to China and its apps UC Browser and UC News showcased false news “to cause social and political turmoil” in his complaint at the Gurugram civil court in the National Capital Region of India.

The summon asks the Chinese business magnate and other individuals to appear in the court or through a lawyer on July 29. Parmar has claimed $268,000 in damages.

Recently UC Browser and UC News were among the 59 Chinese apps banned by the government of India. The Ministry of Electronics and IT stated that the ban comes on the receipt of many complaints including several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorised manner to servers outside India.
