China Vents Anger Over Dalai Lama’s Visit at Swedish Police

The Chinese Embassy in Stockholm in an apparent act of retaliation made a formal complaint against the Swedish police against an incident that took place more than two weeks ago. This is being understood as a retaliation where China vents anger against the two days visit by the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the country last week.

A Chinese man and his elderly parents had arrived at a hotel around midnight, hours before their booking would allow them to check in on September 2 this year. Their demands to stay in the lobby were refused, leading to the police stepping in according to the report in the Telegraph.

Beijing is demanding an apology from the Swedish government for violating human rights and for “brutal abuse” after footage emerged of Chinese tourists allegedly being thrown out of a hotel by police in Stockholm through a complaint filed by Chinese Embassy in Stockholm on September 12, two week after the incident, explained the report.

The bilateral relationship between the two countries has been strained in the recent time. In addition to that, Sweden hosted the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on a two days visit to the country last week. China is highly sensitive towards hosting the spiritual as it considers him as a separatist for demanding genuine autonomy for Tibet which is presently occupied by the communist Asian giant.
