China today has expressed their strong anger against the European Parliament and it’s president Martin Schulz for recently hosting and meeting the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama last week. China even threatened of serious countermeasures against the incident.
“China expressed anger on Monday and threatened countermeasures after exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama spoke at the European Parliament in the French city of Strasbourg and met its president, Martin Schulz.” said the report in Reuters.
“China is resolutely opposed to the mistaken actions of the European Parliament,” Lu Kang told a daily news briefing, adding that its leaders’ insistence on taking an erroneous position had damaged China’s core interests.
The spokesperson informed that EU had not only ignored China’s strong opposition, they also broke their promises to China on the issue of Tibet.
“China absolutely cannot remain indifferent, and we will make the correct choice in accordance with our judgment of the situation,” he added, without elaborating on what China may do according to the report in Reuters.
China invaded Tibet in 1959 initially by claiming that they were liberating Tibet from serfdom but later incorporated the Tibetan territory as inseparable part of China. His Holiness the Dalai Lama who is one of the most revered leaders in the world today and a noble laureate is regarded as a separatist by China.
