China claims they gave Dalai Lama title in a fresh strike against the Tibetan spiritual leader. While China speaking against the recent rise over the concerns about the Dalai Lama’s successor, China said that the Dalai Lama title was conferred by the Chinese government and the present Dalai Lama as individual can not change the processes to appoint the successor.
“China today said the Dalai Lama cannot change the religious rituals and processes to appoint his successor as the title of Dalai Lama was conferred on him by the Chinese government.” said the report in the Economic Times on Friday.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang speaking to a media briefing, was responding to the Dalai Lama’s recent remarks that “my incarnation cannot be born in a place where there is no freedom”. He said “The 14th Dalai Lama was also enthroned under the representatives of the Republic of China at that time,” he added “So there are fixed set of religious rituals and processes and this cannot be changed by any individual,”.
The title Dalai Lama was created by Altan Khan, a historically well known figure from the Asian history as a descendant of Mongolian ruler Kublai Khan. The Mongols shared a strong spiritual relationship with the Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lamas. Specifically it is also how the Tibetans as a whole were united once again under the spiritual and temporal leadership of the Dalai Lama since the 17th century.
The present Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso is the 14th Dalai Lama. The Chinese attempts to take the charge over the successor of the Dalai Lama is solely aimed at political advantage over Tibet. The Dalai Lama being the most important religious figure in the Tibetan community, his influential position over the Tibetan people is being highly vied by Chinese government.
