China cancels foreign minister meet in New Delhi. The Chinese government has said that they are not responsible for the cancellation of the Foreign Ministers meet which was scheduled to take place in India. China did not send its foreign minister to India to attend a tri-partite meeting of Foreign Ministers of India, Russia and China in New Delhi. They did insinuate that they are not happy about the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Arunachal Pradesh.
The meeting was scheduled to take place at New Delhi. The Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi declined to attend the meeting and eventually the meeting was cancelled.
Though the Chinese have said that they are not to be blamed for the cancellation of this meeting but it appears very certain that China is unhappy about the Arunachal visit of the His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said that the reason for the cancellation of this very important meeting is not in China alluding that it has to do with His Holiness’ visit to Arunachal.
Chinese have followed a very predictable policy when it comes to countries which engage with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. They will speak in unambiguous language to express their displeasure and expect the countries to accept and acknowledge One China policy. One such example is of Mongolia which had to apologize to China after the visit of His Holiness to the land-locked country. The Chinese government took strong measures to pressurize the Mongolian Government to acknowledge its One China policy.
The western countries have always considered His Holiness a spiritual leader par excellence and he is greatly revered by many in the west for his ideas and compassionate views about humanity imbued with the philosophy of Buddhism.
The Chinese have not yet gained a stature to force them to stop inviting His Holiness the Dalai Lama and giving public platforms to him. India also did not pay much attention to Chinese rant. But this time the Chinese helped by their growing economic and military stature they have become more assertive.
