Bodhgaya Ready With Excellent Security For Dalai Lama’s 40 Days Stay

The most sacred Buddhist site in the world, Bodhgaya is all geared up with excellent security arrangements to host the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama for around 40 days stay there from the beginning of next month. While His Holiness would visit the holy site, thousands of devotees will be cramping to receiving his teachings.

In view of assuring adequate security to the Tibetan spiritual leader, a temporary police station near the Kalchakra ground in Bodhgaya has already been set up besides setting up bags scanner at the entry to the World Heritage Mahabodhi Mahavihara.

“In view of the expected rush of devotees to the World Heritage Mahabodhi Mahavihara during the Dalai Lama’s stay, a baggage scanner was installed on Thursday. Magadh divisional commissioner Jitendra Shrivastava and Gaya district magistrate Kumar Ravi inaugurated the scanner on Wednesday.” said the report in The Telegraph today.

Though His Holiness the Dalai Lama was schedule to arrive in the Indian town on December 26, slight change in the schedule will now see the town welcome the Nobel Peace laureate on January 2. This time His Holiness is planned to stay in Bodhgaya for more than 40 days which means till the mid of February next year.

“The new scanner has been installed in view of the devotees and tourists to Mahabodhi Mahavihara. It will facilitate smooth entry of devotees, who have to queue for security check. After installation of the scanner, they would not have to wait for long.” District magistrate Ravi said according to the report. In addition to the new scanner, a portal scanner has also been donate from Myanmar.

His Holiness will give a three-day teaching in the mornings between January 5 and 7 at the request of Indians next year and then between January 14 and 16, His Holiness will give a three-day teaching in the mornings. On the morning of the third day, the Mongolian Buddhist devotees will offer a long life offering ceremony (tenshug) to His Holiness at the request Lamyn Gegeen Tenzinjamphelchoijisheinen Tulku.

“Arrangements are also being made to regulate traffic. Entry of autorickshaws coming from Domuhan end has been restricted till node II and those coming from the Gaya-Bodhgaya riverside road till Rajapur. E-rickshaws are also being coded and will be allowed till the State Bank of India branch, around 500m west of the Mahabodhi Mahavihara.” added the report.
