Bill to Recognise Tibetan Independence Introduced in US Congress

A bill to recognise Tibetan independence has been introduced in the US Congress in the latest developments. According to the proposed bill, the head of the state or the president will be authorised to recognise the independence of Tibet from the People’s Republic of China. This is a very strong effort from the US law maker to mobilise a revolutionary move for Tibet.

US House Representative Scott Perry from Pennsylvania introduced a bill (H.R. 6948) that would “authorize the President to recognize the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China as a separate, independent country, and for other purposes”. The bill was referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs May 19 this year.

This is a revolutionary bill from the US law maker as there has never been a recognition of Tibetan independence US. Throughout the long history US support for Tibet, it has always acknowledging the Chinese claim of Tibet being a part of China. Such a strong move has come up when US China relationship is at a very fragile position.

However, the bill does not address the question of genuine autonomy for Tibet. As far as the Tibet Autonomous Region designated by China is concerned, it does not include the traditional entirety of the three provinces of Tibet. If only the Tibet Autonomous Region is recognised, it essentially throws the parts of Kham and Amdo from Tibet.

The relationship between the United States and China has been rough ride especially with regard to the recently developments. While there has been an ongoing worsening trade relationship between the two, China has been criticised for its dealing with the Coronavirus pandemic. US has been on the forefront to slam Chinese irresponsibilities that led to a huge health crisis throughout the world.

Tibet should be an independent country. China’s expansionism and aggressive posturing for India also. China should not be in the security council at all when it is the cause of insecurity in the world.

Ok, but we need to be sure Tibetan independence in legislative language excludes barring Tibetans from US services when Tibetans or Tibetan Buddhists are in the US — it should respect the Tibetans in US Constitutional rights, just to be careful.

I am Tibetan Buddhist and recently arrested while fundraising — giving envelopes or web urls for people to donate. I was barred from receiving Buddhist books marked contraband and using mala, while other religions utilized such things, and fed a diet 1/3 the caloric intake other detainees, then freed in a city where I have no contacts and abstain from money when I requested legal resources. Barred from the public law library today, also. There is discrimination unless you are amkng the wealthy and open minded.

Tibet is an independent country irrespective of what China or any other country is concerned.
