The former US president Barack Obama meets Dalai Lama in New Delhi, India this morning according to the report in the official website of Central Tibetan Administration. This meeting between the two Nobel laureates in New Delhi this time is the sixth time making such meetings while the former US president hosted the Dalai Lama four times during his presidency.
“His Holiness the Dalai Lama today met with former US President Barack Obama in New Delhi. The meeting of the two Nobel laureates, which is sixth in series, took place at the ITC Maurya this morning.” said the official report by Central Tibetan Administration.
“It was very good, I think we are really two old trusted friend.” His Holiness the Dalai Lama said about the meeting to the press.
“The meeting lasted for 45 minutes. The meeting of the former Nobel Laureates dwelled on various topics pertaining to promoting peace in today’s world torn by strife and violence.” informed Mr. Tenpa Tsering India and East Asia Coordinator for Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the exclusive interview by DIIR.
“During the 45-minute meeting, both spoke about promoting compassion and altruism in human beings. His Holiness remarked that basically human beings are compassionate in nature but it is the kind of education imparted that makes the binary between you and me and instills a sense of selfishness and self-centeredness. Both the peace laureates discussed the kind of future they envision for the world.” he added.
“His Holiness also expressed that there have been a couple of meetings of the Nobel peace laureates but there were very less action and more of words on paper. His Holiness told Obama that laureates should meet to affect changes for the immediate future. His Holiness also said that since he is based in India, he is committed to reviving the ancient Indian thoughts to promote peace and compassion.” explained Mr. Tsering about His Holiness’s words in the meeting.
“To Obama, His Holiness said, ‘You are not only a former US president but you are a former Nobel laureate, you are young and you can do a lot. We should fulfil our aspiration for world peace. Maybe my generation will not see the results, but your generation will definitely see the results,” Kasur Tempa Tsering said about what His Holiness called upon the former US President.
Obama arrived last night in India from China where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday. Obama will speak at a leadership meeting in New Delhi and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Presently the former president who repeatedly extended the US support to the ‘Middle Way’ policy to resolve the Tibet issue is on a three nation tour of China, India and France.
