As Driver Dozes, Bus Falls off Expressway and Claims 29 Lives

In a tragic news report coming out this early morning, a bus carrying more than 50 passengers fell of an expressway. The initial probes explain that the bus driver dozed and lost the control of the vehicle, leading to it fall into a gorge more than 50 feet down the expressway. The incident took place in India and the accident has claimed 29 lives.

A state transport passenger bus of Uttar Pradesh in India while travelling on the Yamuna Expressway flyover early this morning, the driver dozed off. The result is fatal. The bus which was carrying more than 50 passengers from Lucknow hit the dividers and fell 50 feet off the bridge.

“It seems the bus driver of the UPSRTC Jan Rath fell asleep on the wheel, breaking the divider and taking the bus into 40-feet shallow gap between two flyovers of Yamuna Expressway.” said Major (retired) Manish Singh, in-charge coordinator of the expressway. The double decker bus accident killed 29 of the passengers.

According to UPSRTC officials, the driver, 45-year-old Kripa Shankar Chaudhary, has zero accident record. However, the details of the cause are being probed further.  Chief Minister of the state, Yogi Adityanath immediately rushed to the spot and in expression of grief, announced ex-gratia of Rs. 5 Lacs to the next of the kin of the passengers killed in the accident.
