According to latest updates, another Tibetan man has tested COVID-19 positive in Majnu Ka Tilla, Delhi. The positive case from the Tibetan refugee colony in the national capital has been reported on Monday afternoon. This is the second case of infection identified from Tibetans in the colony of whom the first one passed away on last Tuesday.
A 43 year old Tibetan man named Ngawang Jamphel has tested COVID-19 positive according to the test results from Delhi municipal authorities. The whole area of his dwelling has been sanitized and kept in isolation on Monday. This is the second officially identified case from Tibetans in the refugee camp popularly known as Majnu Ka Tilla or MT.
The first Tibetan infected with coronavirus in India passed away in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh earlier this year after returning from United States. A Tibetan woman recently tested positive to virus is now receiving treatment from local government hospital in Dalhousie. A 62 year old Tibetan from MT passed away last week and he tested COVID-19 positive. A young Tibetan nurse from New Delhi announced on the social media that she suffered from the virus and shared her journey to recovery. Three members of a Tibetan family is also reported to have recovered from the infection.
With the youngest Tibetan COVID-19 positive case being a 12 year old boy from Tuting and a 65 year old woman from Delhi, there are ten identified cases of infection among Tibetan refugees in India and two of them succumbed to the infection.
As per the latest update, there are 213 cases of Coronavirus infections among Tibetan refugees abroad, i.e., those refugees in countries apart from India, Nepal and Bhutan. This is as per the information sent by the Offices of Tibet from various countries. According to the information, there are 8 deaths while 165 of them have recovered. This leaves a total of 40 active cases in Tibetans abroad.
