Animated version of classic Tibetan fable was released by the Department of Education from Central Tibetan Administration on Wednesday. This is the first ever animated film by the Tibetan administration on the all time Tibetan favourite fable and this is an effort from the department to preserve and promote the Tibetan language and tradition.
“Promoting language, identity, culture and traditional history through digital storytelling, the Department of Education, CTA released its first ever animated film on all-time favourite fable, The Forgetful Agu Phagpa and a Tibetan dubbed version of Buddha’s Sutra, Life of Buddha.” said the official report in the website of Central Tibetan Administration.
“This groundbreaking initiative, on behalf of the Education department, represents our commitment and service towards preserving Tibetan language and culture; revitalising awareness and appreciation for one’s language in schools and at home.” Minister of Education Department, Mr. Ngodup Tsering said as chief guest of the launch event.
“With animation becoming the most effective pedagogical technology to engage children’s imagination and learning capabilities, the Education department will continue to explore this opportunity to further our efforts.” he added.
The animated film is produced by the department while it was created by Jamphel Animation. A similar animated film on the same fable was published by China in Tibet earlier this year. Now it remains to be seen how the comparison of the come out in the context of its effectiveness in preserving and promoting the Tibetan language and identity.
