Amid Tensions, India’s Tibetan Radio Program Goes Viral

Amid the rising tension between India and China, Indian broadcasting administration promotes their Tibetan radio program. The promotion has gone viral on the social media as we keep a track of their tweets. The All India Radio has various programs with special focuses and the Tibetan World Service is one of them.

The state-run public broadcaster Prasar Bharati on Wednesday (17 June) posted a tweet urging people to listen to the Tibetan World Service offered by All India Radio (AIR). This program by AIR offers authentic news and programs from Tibet. Besides tuning in from a radio, these services can also be accessed via YouTube and in a text format.

The tweet which came amid high public anger against China over its premeditated violence against Indian troops in Galwan Valley, soon went viral. It has over 5,700 retweets and 9,300 likes within eighteen hours announcing on the social media platform. The issue of Tibet has once again come into forefront with rising hostility between India and China.

The border forces of China and India engaged a violent clash on Monday night. This comes during a time of agreed disengagement from the protracted stand off between the two armies in the Galwan region in Ladakh. Twenty Indian soldiers including a colonel has been martyred while China has reported more than 43 casualties from the scuffle.

Dr. Sangay, President of exile Tibetan administration recently explained that there was no tension along the borders for India before China occupied Tibet. Since Chinese invasion of Tibet, there has been border incursions along India’s borders. He added that solving the issue of Tibet is the key to solving long standing border disputes between the two Asian giants.
