Abe Lived A Meaningful Life in the Service of Others: Dalai Lama

Soon as the unfortunate news of former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe’s assassination, the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama offered his condolences. In his letter to his late friend’s wife, the spiritual leader expressed his deep sadness and wrote that Shinzo Abe lived a meaningful life in the service of others.

Shinzo Abe is the longest service primer minister in Japanese history although he resigned from the office in 2020 due to health reasons. The former PM was assassinated during a political campaign while delivering a speech to the public in Nara. A 41-year-old former Japanese navy, Tetsuya Yamagami shot Abe with a homemade gun. The horrifying incident is shot on video and the police investigating the assassination have hinted that the unemployed 41-year-old suspect had hatred towards a certain group.

The Dalai Lama in his condolence letter to late Abe’s family expressed his sadness and prayers. He acknowledged that the former PM was a friend of his and a steadfast supporter of the Tibetan people. He has added that he has very much appreciated Shinzo Abe’s friendship and support.

“I am deeply saddened to hear that my friend, Mr. Abe Shinzo has passed away following a gunshot attack this morning. I pray for him and offer my condolences to you and members of your family. As you know, your late husband was a steadfast friend of the Tibetan people. I very much appreciated his friendship and support of our efforts to preserve our rich Buddhist cultural heritage and identity.”

His Holiness further added that “Mr. Abe truly lived a meaningful life in the service of others.”, according to the official website of Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Friday.
