A Monk Dies of Self-Immolation In Tibet On Same Day Of Dorjee Tsering’s Self Immolation In India

Whilst the shocking and unbelievably courageous act of self immolation for Free Tibet by Tibetan teenager Dorjee Tsering in India, according to Radio Free Asia, a Tibetan monk has died after setting himself on fire to protest against the Chinese authorities in Sichuan province of China held Tibet on Monday(29-02-16).

Kalsang Wangdu is a  monk of the Retsokha Aryaling monastery who resorted to self-immolation around 4:00 p.m. on February 29 near by his monastery. Retsokha Arraying monastery is located in Kardze (in Chinese, Ganzi) Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture’s Nyagrong (Xinlong) county.

complete independence while he was burning according to witnesses who intervened him to be taken away to Chengdu hospital. However he died on the way to the hospital.

His sacrifice accounts the total number of Tibetans burning themselves to 144 while he becomes the first such protester in a Tibetan area under China this year.

While in India, Dorjee Tsering who is just 16 years old is struggling under critical condition at Safdarjung hospital in New Delhi after suffering 95% external burn following his self immolation in Dehradun.

“I want His Holiness the Dalai Lama to live long and for Tibet to achieve its independence,” he said at the hospital.

The young boy said that he really wanted to something significant to the Tibetan cause and decided to sacrifice his body even though my parents said that they would kill themselves if I did something like this. His parents recall such hints from the boy about his intentions.

The incident has been reported to the US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton by activist Jigme Ugen according to his Facebook post. He has reported that Hillary Clinton said that he is aware of the Tibetan people’s plight and sent her assurance to the boy that his sacrifice would not go in vain.

“We must organize as we mourn, we must be the voices for Dorjee and the 149 other self-immolators, and echo the sufferings of our sisters and brothers in Tibet to every corners of the world. We owe it to them.” writes Jigme.
