A 12 year old Tibetan student is report to have tested COVID-19 positive in India. According to the weekly update by the Central Tibetan Administration’s COVID-19 Emergency Relief Committee, a 12 year old Tibetan student from Tuting has tested positive for coronavirus. There were a total of three identified cases among Tibetans in India last week.
Dr. Tsering Tsamchoe during the weekly brief of the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Committee, CTA on Thursday informed of a young student hailing from Tuting, Arunachal Pradesh testing positive to Coronavirus. The student is reported to be showing no symptoms and in good condition till now. This means there are total of 4 identified Coronavirus cases among Tibetans in India of whom two of them have passed away.
“In Tibetan community in India, a 62-year-old man from Delhi, a 63-year-old woman from Dalhousie and a 12-year-old student from Tuting have reportedly tested positive for the virus. The man from Delhi has passed away this week, while the other 2 have shown no symptoms so far and are in good condition as told by Delhi’s Representative. This week, no case has been reported from the Tibetan community-based in the US, so the previous week’s data available on the website, i.e., 213 infected, 8 deaths, 165 recoveries as received from the OOT in Washington DC.” Dr. Tsamchoe informed about the situation of Tibetans in exile during Coronarvirus pandemic. She informed that there was no identified cases of infection among Tibetans in Nepal and Bhutan.
With the spread of coronavirus that originated from Wuhan city of China, world came to a halt. There are lockdowns implemented in most countries leading to a completed stop of international flights. The pandemic has now infected more than 6.6 million people across the world. It has claimed more than 393K human lives and overwhelmed the health systems in most of the countries.
As far as India is concerned, more than two hundred and forty thousand cases of infections with almost 7000 deaths is reported. In addition to that there has been a continued rise in the cases of new infections from India showing no signs of reaching the peak anytime soon.
