Dalai Lama Congratulates New Italy PM Meloni, She Promise Renewed Friendship

As Giorgia Meloni took office as the first woman Prime Minister of Italy on October 23, the Spiritual leader Dalai Lama congratulated her. The PM in a response to the message took to Twitter to show how honored she was and said that she would take the opportunity to renew their sentiment of friendship.

The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote a letter to congratulate Meloni on becoming the new PM of Itay on October 23, 2022. He wrote about his multiple trips to Italy where he was touched by the affection and friendship shown by the Italians. He also expressed his gratitude towards the Italian’s consistent for the Tibetan people’s aspirations for freedom and dignity.

“I would like to say that I am pleased to see that the new Prime Minister of Italy is a woman, because I believe, and there is scientific evidence to demonstrate it, that women are more empathetic and sensitive to the feelings of others. Consequently, they show greater warm-heartedness and concern for others’ well-being.” wrote the Dalai lama.

“These are very challenging times for Italy and the whole of humanity. In today’s highly interdependent world, individuals and nations can no longer resolve the problems they face alone. We are reliant on the wider community to survive, therefore we need to show greater kindness and compassion to one another.”

His Holiness ended his letter by wishing Ms. Meloni every success in meeting the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in fulfilling the wishes of the people of Italy and the wider world.

Meloni is the leader of the nationalist party Brothers of Italy and their coalition swept clean to victory last month. She assumed the top office this week facing one of the toughest times the nation has seen since World War Two. During her first speech as the PM, she assured their support of Western sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin and vowed will not to give in to Putin’s blackmail of energy.
