Tibet’s Prominent Historical Figures: The First Symposium

Dharamshala, 6th December: The first symposium on Tibet’s Prominent Historical Figures was held at Sarah College for Higher Tibetan Studies in Dharamshala on the morning of November 20th. The Tibet Policy Institute (TPI) of the Central Tibetan Administration hosted a conference that drew a large number of Tibetan researchers, historians, writers, and others.

His Holiness’s wish, which has long underlined the need for such a meeting to increase awareness about Tibet’s actual history, which may potentially replace the Chinese government’s false narrative, is one of the driving forces behind the symposium being convened in the first place.

Dawa Tsering, Director of TPI, stated that understanding Tibet’s history, in particular, has become increasingly important for Tibetans, considering the dire situation inside Tibet, where the tyrannical Chinese government continues to undermine the Tibetans’ basic identity.

At the meeting, His Holiness the 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, delivered a special video message, in which he emphasized the importance of cherishing and preserving the immense historical and literary riches in possession. Rinpoche also highlighted the importance of not only studying but also examining renowned historical experts’ literary works.

The conference’s organizers and participants congratulated internationally famous scholar Tashi Tsering Josayma, a Tibetologist who is known for his substantial work in the field. Tashi Tsering Josayma gave a lengthy speech on Tibet’s historical relevance, which was followed by a panel discussion of researchers on a number of major themes related to Tibet’s historical characters.
