Dharamshala, 1st November: Tsering Jampa, an ICT Tibetan, was the first Tibetan to be granted the Dutch Royal Distinction. Tsering Jampa, Executive Director of the International Campaign for Tibet-Europe, was knighted in the Order of Orange-Nassau, a prestigious Dutch Royal Distinction, yesterday in Amsterdam for her significant efforts to safeguard and promote the Tibetan people’s fundamental rights.

Sharon Dijksma, the mayor of Utrecht, where Tsering currently resides, presented her with the medal at a reception commemorating Tsering’s retirement at the end of this month. This is the first time a Tibetan has gotten such a prestigious award.

As per savetibet.org, Dijksma said that Tsering is stepping down as director that day, which is unfortunate, but the good news is that Tsering will continue to work for Tibetans and everyone else who lacks a voice but deserves one. Dijksma added that Tsering’s strength, patience, and desire for peace inspire her much. She also stated that this is how you fight! Tsering is a role model for everyone.

Wangpo Tethong, who will succeed Tsering as ICT Europe’s new executive director, said they are ecstatic and humbled by this magnificent official acknowledgment of her many years of devotion to the Tibetan people and their nonviolent struggle for justice and human rights. Tsering Jampa’s commitment to human rights and fundamental freedoms serves as an example to all women and men who preserve these ideals, he added.
