Sikyong: Tibetans demonstrate ‘indomitable’ courage in the face of China

 

Dharamshala, 4th September: Sikyong Penpa Tsering highlighted China’s atrocities against Tibetans over the years, saying that people in Tibet have shown indomitable fortitude and tenacity in the face of China’s policy of exterminating the region’s identity. Sikyong also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to India, the United States, and all other countries and Tibet Support Groups throughout the world for their unwavering support for Tibet’s righteous cause.

Sikyong’s comments come on the 61st anniversary of the Tibetan Parliament’s establishment in 1960, following the arrival in India of His Holiness The Dalai Lama and 80,000 Tibetans in exile. On the 61st anniversary of the Tibetan Parliament’s founding, he urged his fellow Tibetans to continue the “independence struggle,” emphasizing that “strength unites Tibet.”

The president stated that on February 3, 1960, delegates of Tibetans in exile assembled in Bodhgaya for the first time and “took Na-gyen Chenmo (great oath) pledging utmost dedication and sacrifice to establish unity and cooperation under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.”

Since taking office in 2013, Xi has maintained a solid policy of tightening security control over Tibet. Buddhist monks and Dalai Lama adherents have been persecuted in Beijing. On a variety of occasions, the United States has brought up the subject of human rights violations in Tibet.

According to Xinhua, Xi directed local province officials to seek to increase Tibetans’ identification with the “great homeland, Chinese people, Chinese culture, the Chinese Communist Party, and socialism with Chinese features.” He also stated that the “rejuvenation of the Chinese country” can only be realized if the masses “follow the party.” China is replacing Tibetan-language schooling with education almost entirely in Chinese and coercing parents to send their children to faraway residential schools in a renewed effort to eliminate the Tibetan identity.

Rinchen Kyi, a Tibetan teacher was arrested and charged with separatism after her school was forcibly closed. Sherab Dorje(19) from Ngaba(Eastern Tibet) was arrested in August 2021 for his failure to attend a Chinese propaganda lecture. These sessions are designed to ensure Tibetans do not oppose China’s policies in Tibet.

Language Restriction:

Recently, According to RFA, In the province of Qinghai in northwestern China, two Tibetan students have been held accused of not using the Chinese language as the only teaching medium in Tibetan schools. Gyuldrak and Yangrik had challenged a new Chinese education policy that would require only Chinese-language instruction at middle school. The two 19-year-old inhabitants, Gyuldrak and Yangrik, were brought into jail by Chinese authorities on the 24th of August. Taking a WeChat social media platform against the Chinese policy mandate, starting in September, both middle school pupils are expected to draw Police attention to teaching all lessons in local schools in Chinese solely. Tibetan parents are instructed in place of the older Tibetan texts to collect Chinese textbooks when testing COVID-19.
