‘Maitri Bus Sewa’ between Delhi and Nepal is set to restart in the near future.

Dharamshala, 7th August: If the COVID situation improves, the Delhi Transport Corporation has declared preparations to begin Maitri Bus Sewa between Delhi and Nepal. The bus service between the two countries was established a few years ago, but it was discontinued owing to the global epidemic that struck in March 2020.

According to a news agency, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) official stated that no timetable has been set for the restoration of services. The official further stated that DTC intends to transmit its suggestions to the Ministry of External Affairs in this regard (MEA). If the proposal is approved, the services will be restored as soon as possible.

“DTC is doing its share to reinstate bus services,” R.S. Minhas, DTC’s Deputy Chief General Manager (Traffic & Public Relations), said. “However, because bus services were discontinued owing to the Covid-19 epidemic, DTC would need the MEA’s final consent to restart the services.” There will be no delay on DTC’s part once the approval is received.”

The Delhi-Kathmandu bus is a trans-border bus service that connects the capital cities of both countries. DTC began operating the buses in 2014, and they travel a distance of 1250 kilometers in 30 hours. The buses depart from the Ambedkar Stadium bus terminal in Delhi and arrive at the Kathmandu bus station near the Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal.

The route passes through Agra (via the Yamuna Expressway), Firozabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, and Gorakhpur in India. Customs checks are conducted at the Sunauli border. The bus passes through Tilottama, Rupandehi, Kawasoti, and Narayangadh in Nepal.

The bus service is operated by DTC in India and the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) in Nepal.
