Dharamshala, 14th June: China warned Group of Seven leaders on Sunday that the days of “small” groups of countries deciding the fate of the globe were long gone, slamming the world’s wealthiest democracies as they sought to act in concert to confront Beijing’s might. Along with the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, which ended the Cold War, the re-emergence of China as a key global power is regarded as one of the most momentous geopolitical events of modern times. However, the re-emergence of China as a global force has alarmed the US: President Joe Biden has labeled China as the country’s top strategic rival and pledged to combat China’s “economic injustices” as well as human rights breaches.
“The days of a small group of countries dictating global decisions are long gone, We have always believed that all countries are equals, big or small, strong or weak, poor or rich, and that world issues should be managed through consultation among all countries.” a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in London said.
According to the Chinese spokeswoman, the only genuine global system is the international order based on UN principles, not “so-called regulations set by a small number of countries.” The G7 leaders, who are meeting in southwestern England, have been trying to come up with a clear answer to President Xi Jinping’s growing assertiveness in the aftermath of China’s stunning economic and military rise over the previous 40 years. The leaders of the group, which includes the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, and Japan, want to use their meeting in Carbis Bay, England, to demonstrate the world that the world’s wealthiest democracies can provide an alternative to China’s expanding power.
According to a source, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau led a G7 debate on China on Saturday, calling on leaders to come up with a cohesive approach to the People’s Republic’s difficulties. The G7 intends to provide poorer countries an infrastructure package that might compete with Xi’s multibillion-dollar Belt and Road proposal.
