The authorities of Communist China has announced a seven years jail term to Tibetans who were detained for singing a song in praise of their exiled spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama. While this is not any unusual news for the Tibetans under Chinese occupation, such repressive measures are unheard of for the people in the free world.
Two Tibetans namely Khando Tsetan and Tsego have been sentenced to seven years and three years in prison respectively by a Chinese court in north-eastern Tibet in early July this year. They have been sentenced under the false charges of “state subversion” and “leaking state secrets” since they composed, sang, and circulated a song in praise of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, according to the Human Rights Desk of Central Tibetan Administration.
The month of July is one of the most restrictive times for the Tibetans under Chinese control as His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday comes in that period. On the occasion of His Holiness’s 85th birthday on July 6, Tibetan monasteries were ordered to be shut down for public visits by the Chinese authorities besides other restrictions on the important day.
While His Holiness the Dalai Lama is regard as one of the most prominent leaders across the world, China continues to accuse him of plotting separatist activities. Since the forceful annexation of Tibet in 1959 by China, the spiritual leader has been living exile since then. Despite spearheading the Tibetan movement towards one of the most peaceful campaigns ever in the history, China continues to evade from reality and impose serious restriction upon his followers.
