Boycott China: Indian State Cancels Rs. 750 Cr Contract With Chinese Firm

In the wake of boycotting Chinese goods, an Indian state cancels Rs. 750 crore contract with Chinese firm. Following the violent clash between Indian and Chinese army along the borders in Ladakh, boycott Chinese goods campaign is growing. The campaign targets boycott of both Chinese hardware and software products.

The campaign to boycott Chinese goods in India has gained a huge momentum recently. Following the infamous credit to China for bringing the Coronavirus pandemic, global mistrust over China has exploded. In India, the public sentiment against China has grown further with Chinese troops disturbing the peace Indian borders that led to the death of 20 soldiers.

In the latest move, BJP led government of Haryana state of India has cancelled two contracts worth Rs 780 crore with Chinese firms for installing pollution control equipment at two of its thermal power facilities. Chinese companies had won the bid and secured the contracts for installing equipment at thermal power plants in Yamunanagar and Hisar. The bid was invited by the Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) for both these plants, according to ABP news report.

Recently Indian Telecom Ministry too directed ordered BSNL, MTNL and other private companies to ban all Chinese deals and equipment. They have been asked to avoid Chinese equipment in up-gradation. The decision by the Telecom ministry could play a major role in the 4G upgradation purchases by its subsidiaries.

Dr. Lobsang Sangay, President of Exile Tibetan Administration recently explained on an Indian national television channel that there was no tension along the borders for India before China occupied Tibet. Since Chinese invasion of Tibet, there has been border incursions along India’s borders. Tibet issue is the core to solving India China border dispute.
