China has been recently pressed by the world on the whereabouts of Tibet’s Panchen Lama. The Chinese spokesperson on Tuesday informed the world that the Panchen Lama is now a college graduate with a stable job. During this coronavirus outbreak, China has been met with serious criticism from many countries.
Days after His Holiness the Dalai Lama recognized Gedun Choekyi Nyima as the reincarnation of 10th Panchen Lama, China kidnapped the six years old boy in 1995. After the Dalai Lama’s escape to exile, Panchen Lama has been the only leader widely recognized by the Tibetans in Tibet. He became the youngest political prisoner and his where about is still a mystery only China knows.
With mounting criticism for China’s outright censorship information regarding the coronavirus outbreak that originated from Wuhan, poor human rights situation in its regions under the control of the communist party came afore. While many countries started speaking up for Taiwan, Tibet is not being left out. Lawmakers across the world are demanding China to release the Panchen Lama.
United States recently intensified its campaign against China and urged it to let the world know where Tibet’s Panchen Rinpoche is. In the renewed push from a large group Tibet supporters, US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo too on Monday demanded that China reveal “immediately” the whereabouts of the Panchen Lama chosen by the Dalai Lama, 25 years ago.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian on Tuesday said that then 6 years old Panchen Lama is now a college graduate, living a normal live with a stable job. The Chinese diplomat further added that the Panchen Lama and his family wishes not to be disturbed in their lives.
Zhao said Gedhun Choekyi Nyima “received free compulsory education when he was a child, passed the college entrance examination and now has a job.” Zhao said neither the now-31-year-old man or his family wishes to not be disturbed in their “current normal lives.” No other details were given.
Very little information has been given about Gedhun Choekyi Nyima or his family since he went missing at age 6 shortly after being named the 11th Panchen Lama by the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama in exile.
