Pioneer’s Report ‘Dalai Vs Sangay’ Misleading; Clarifies CTA

Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) of the Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamshala, India has issued a clarification against a misleading report published by the Pioneer on Sunday. The misleading report is titled ‘Dalai Vs Sangay: Case hearing from June 5’, relating to the case between Former Speaker and the President of CTA.

The former Representative to North America, former speaker of Tibetan Parliament in Exile, Mr. Penpa Tsering lodged a case against President of CTA Dr. Lobsang Sangay and his cabinet after he was sacked from the office two years ago. While the Dr. Sangay led cabinet asserts that they have the authority by administrative rules to make changes in the offices, Mr. Tsering says he is fighting against unjust accusation levied against his sacking.

While the first hearing of the case at the Supreme Justice Commission of CTA in Dharamshala began on Wednesday, the report in the Pioneer has made false assumptions and misleading references made to the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The following is the complete clarification published in the official website of CTA:

“The Pioneer Sunday edition of June 2, carried a report titled “Dalai vs Sangay: Case hearing from June 5”. The Central Tibetan Administration finds the report misleading and disrespectful to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration.

The Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) has, in consultation with the Kashag, issued a rebuttal to the Chief Editor of The Pioneer. It was made clear that the case in question has nothing to do with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his authority. Request was also made to look into the facts before publishing such an irresponsible piece.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the most influential leader who is revered by six million Tibetans inside and outside Tibet. President Dr Lobsang Sangay has the highest reverence for him.

Mr. Arya, Secretary of Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) said the report is grossly misleading and cautioned the general public to be careful and not take this bait of internal vituperation.”
