Nepal Government Data Shows China Illegally Occupying Their Land

According to the new data released by the Nepal government, China is illegally occupying their land. The data which was released on Friday explained that the Chinese government has encroached Nepal’s land through the ongoing road expansion project in Tibet and it also fears of more aggressive encroachments in the future.

The Ministry of Agriculture in Nepal has revealed that China has encroached around 36 hectares of land in four of their districts touching the China occupied Tibet border. The ministry explains that the diversion of a river along the border has led to the encroached and it also fears that Nepal would lose hundreds acres to the Chinese side.

“As per the data from the ministry, 36 hectors of land in four different districts touching Chinese border now fall into the Chinese side.” said the report in the Business Standard adding, “China changed the direction of the river which now has been diverted to the Nepali side. This resulted in the encroachment of land, the Ministry has concluded.”

“Nepal would lose a hundred acres of land to the Tibetian side,” Ministry explained in its report from the month long survey conducted back in 2015 in Humla, Karnali, Rasuwa, Jambukhola, Sindhupalchowk, etc. With this, the Nepal Government is set to start a land survey in others districts adjoining Chinese territory namely Taplejung, Solukhmbu, Dolakha, Gorkha, Manang, Mustang, Dolpa, Mugu, Humla and Darchula suspecting similar encroachment there.

The Chinese influence in Nepal has been more prominent over the recent past. The most visible impacts of the Chinese influence have been its shift the policies in dealings with India and the Tibetan refugees there. Tibetans have now been suppressed from organizing any gatherings set aside any demonstrations against China, during significant dates such as the March 10, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday.
