A Senator in Canada has presented a notice of motion on Tibet in the Upper House of Canadian parliament. The Canadian senator will be presenting a motion on Tibet which will be calling for the reciprocal access to Tibet for their citizens among other issues on Tibet.
Senator Thanh Hai Ngo presented notice of motion on Tibet in the Senate Chamber on Thursday according to the report in official website of Canada Tibet Committee. Besides calling for reciprocal access to Tibet for Canadians, the motion will be calling for resumption of sino-Tibetan dialogue, respect for linguistic rights in Tibet and many other issues on Tibet.
“The motion urges the Government of Canada to support the genuine autonomy of Tibet and calls for resumption of the Sino-Tibetan dialogue based on Middle Way Approach; respect of linguistic rights, freedom of movement, thought, conscience and religion of the people in Tibet; free all Tibetan political prisoners, and cease all arbitrary detention of dissidents; and grant Canada reciprocal diplomatic access to Tibet without limitations” said the report.
Senator Thanh Hai Ngo was among five of senators who launched an inquiry into the state of political prisoners of Tibet in Canadian Senate chamber on 23 November 2017. Following the successful enactment of Reciprocal Access to Tibet Act in the United States in December last year, China promised to ease up the process of granting access to Tibet for foreigners.
Recently, Europeans have also called for equal access to Tibet. The call for equilateral relationship between the European countries and China has been led by a group European Parliament and many European national parliament members.
