A Tibetan Youth Allegedly Arrested With 115 gm of Charas

A Tibetan youth is reported to have been arrested for allegedly possessing 115.2 grams of Charas, a specific type of hash, in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, India on Monday. The police during a regular patrol in McLeod Ganj in Dharamsala on Monday, the Tibetan youth was arrested near the bypass road in Mcleodganj.

“A 23-year-old Tibetan man was arrested for allegedly possessing 115.21 gram of charas at Mcleodganj, police said Monday. Police seized 115.21 gram of charas, Rs 5,400 cash, a motorcycle from the accused who was caught during regular police patrolling near the bypass road in Mcleodganj.” said the report in the Echo of India on Wednesday.

Under the NDPS act the flower or bud (cannabis) and the resin (charas) is termed as illegal and possession upto 1000 gms of cannabis or 100gms of charas is tantamount to 6 months prison or 10000 Rs fine. The possession and smoking of Marijuana are both illegal in India. Charas: a specific type of hash, the only one which is made from a live plant.

According to the report in the Tibet Times, the Tibetan Settlement Officer in Dharamsala, Mr. Dawa Rinchen is quoted to have informed that as it is reported in the Indian news media, cases as such being against the law of the land, his office can not do anything. However, also also assured of taking full responsibility of any cases not falling against the law of the land.
