His Holiness the Dalai Lama Condemns ‘Lama’ Politics

The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama during the first day of his teachings in Zanskar publicly condemned ‘Lama’ politics by emphasizing that high ranking spiritual leaders getting embroiled in politics is far more disadvantageous than being advantageous and it erodes the sanctity of Tibetan Buddhism.

“His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived in Zanskar on Friday last week. In his address to the public His Holiness lamented the sordid state of affairs wherein ‘Lamas’ (high ranking buddhist monks) get embroiled in politics causing the erosion of the sanctity of Tibetan buddhism.” said the report in the official website of Central Tibetan Administration on Monday.

While the Tibetan spiritual leader expressed his joy in being able to visit the far eastern part of Jammu & Kashmir state in Zanskar once again, His Holiness explained that we all are members of the human family, we all seek happiness and avoid suffering. Besides, His Holiness also explained that he voluntarily put an end to the 400 years tradition of the Dalai Lamas being both the temporal and spiritual head of Tibet in 2011 with pride. His Holiness added that he is totally against ‘Lama’ politics.

“It is the 14th Dalai Lama who put an end to the 400 year long rule by the Dalai Lamas as the head of the State. This is done voluntarily with profound pride and joy,” His Holiness the Dalai Lama told at the teaching for the locals in Zanskar, “A fear of ‘Lama’ politics which seems to be prominent in Ladakh too has been thwarting the essence of Buddhism. This is unnecessary. I am totally against ‘Lama’ politics,” advising his devotees to be wary and vigilant.
