Dalai Lama Among Top 10 World’s Most Admired People

The Tibetan spiritual leader and world renowned torch bearer of peace, His Holiness the Dalai Lama is among the top 10 list of World’s Most Admired People according to the online survey conducted by the YouGov. The list of most admired people was published on Wednesday which was categorized into top 10 men and top 10 women.

While the top spot with 9.9 percent admiration share of the list taken by Tech pioneer and philanthropist Bill Gates in the men category while actor Angelina Jolie holds the top spot with 8.2 percent admiration share in the women category. Gates is trailed by former US president Barack Obama and then Chinese actor Jackie Chan while Jolie is trailed by former US first lady Michele Obama and then Oprah Winfrey.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama has climbed up by one spot in the list to become the top seventh world’s most admire person with a 3.9 percent share of admiration in the survey. The Tibetan spiritual leader is followed by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi with 3.9 percent share of admiration further followed by veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan with 3.1 percent share of admiration.

Entertainers dominate the female top twenty, with 14 of the most admired women being actresses, singers or TV presenters (although some, like Emma Watson and Angelina Jolie, are also notable for their humanitarian work). By contrast, the list of most admired men contains more people from political, business and sporting backgrounds.

“In December YouGov gathered open-ended nominations from panellists across 35 countries, asking them simply: “Thinking about people alive in the world today, which [man or woman] do you most admire?” These nominations were then used to compile a list of the 20 men and 20 women who received the most nominations and were nominated in at least four countries.” explained the YouGov that added that it interviewed more than 37,000 people to compile the list.
