Danish Students Group Renovate Tibetan Martyrs Pillar

The prominent Tibetan monument, Tibetan Martyrs Pillar in the compound of the Main Temple in McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala is being voluntarily renovated by a group of Danish Students to show their solidarity support to the Tibetans. According to the project report, the group of 22 Danish students is carrying it out along with the NGO Tibet Hope Center.

In a show of solidarity, a team of 22 Danish volunteers in collaboration with a Tibetan Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO)-in-exile are renovating a prominent Tibetan monument known as ‘Tibetan Martyrs Pillar’ near the main Buddhist temple in Himachal Pradesh’s Dharamsala .” said the report in the Business Standard on Sunday.

A group of Danish students have visited the Himalayan town of India where they have come to seek an inter-cultural understanding through various projects of work. According to the organizers, while some 22 students are participating in the renovation of the prominent monument, some are visiting Tibetan schools for education activities.

“We are collaborating with a group students from a Danish college who are here for three weeks. The theme of their work is to gain a cultural understanding. Under this theme, they are able to understand more about the Tibetan culture and their way of life. There are a few students; some of them are here renovating this martyrs pillar whereas some are visiting schools for educational activities.” Director of Tibet Hope Center, Damdul said according to the report.

Tibetans have based their exile administrative headquarters in Dharamsala after His Holiness the Dalai Lama sought refuge in India back in 1959, advocating for the human rights of Tibetans inside Tibet. The students have expressed their support and solidarity with the Tibetans through this project.
