India to Allow Foreign Tourists to Sensitive Areas Like TAWANG

According to the latest unfolding from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the government of India is planning to allow foreign tourists to visit sensitive areas like Tawang. The move from Ministry of Home Affairs is going to do away with the restriction imposed to travel to the sensitive areas of the country for foreign visitors.

“The Ministry of Home Affairs is currently considering a proposal to relax the six-decade-old Restricted Area Permit policy, under which foreigners are barred from visiting sensitive areas without special permission.” said the report in the Swarajya on Monday.

Though the government is planning to remove the restriction imposed to visit these areas,  it is also reported that the relaxation will not be applicable to those from China and Pakistan. The proposal will allow unrestricted flow of tourists to the states like Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim as well as parts of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir.

“Areas out of bond for foreign tourists include whole of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim, and parts of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir. Some parts of Sikkim fall under the protected area regime while others under the restricted area.” added the report that claimed the move is likely to benefit Arunachal government’s plan to increase tourist inflow to Tawang.

“We wrote to MHA two years ago asking for easier norms to allow more tourists to visit Arunachal Pradesh. Easing these norms will facilitate tourism and allow more people to be able to see far flung places,” Tourism Minister K J Alphons has said in favour of center’s move aimed at promoting tourism, creating job opportunities for the locals and generate revenue for the state.
