India, China Must Talk to Resolve Tibet Issue

The apex Tibet Support Groups in India, Core Group for Tibetan Cause called upon the Central Government of India in New Delhi to put press upon the counterpart Chinese government in Beijing to resume dialogue with His Holiness the Dalai Lama so that the two would reach a point to resolve the Tibet issue.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reported to have had a conversation with Chinese President Xi Jingping over telephone on Tuesday, wherein PM Modi upon congratulating President Xi’s re-election, the two parties agreed to continue their close consultations on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The national convener of the Core Group for Tibetan Cause (CGTC), R K Khrimey, while urging New Delhi to press the Beijing government to resume dialogue with His Holiness the Dalai Lama so that the a solution to the Tibet issue can be found, he added that close ties between the two  Asian giants would ensure that both nations would benefit from bilateral trade, tourism and cultural ties.

The report in the India.com explained that the apex body of Tibet support groups in India began an 11-day relay foot march from Chuthangmo to Tezpur on March 17 to pray for the long life of the Dalai Lama to allow him to continue to spread his message of peace and prosperity as symbol of peace across the world, as also to commemorate the 60th anniversary year of his journey from Tibet to India in March 1959.

The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama left from Lhasa, the capital of Tibet on March 17, 1959 after a failed national uprising by Tibetans against the Chinese army to seek asylum in India. This year marks the 60th year of His Holiness followed by thousands of Tibetans’ arrival to India.
