A former Tibetan political prisoner has disappeared into custody after carrying a protest in Lhasa on Sunday according to the report in the Radio Free Asia. Tibetan reliable news sources confirmed that the former Tibetan political prisoner staged a peaceful protest against Chinese occupation of Tibet in Lhasa and since then his whereabouts are unknown.
“A Tibetan man previously jailed for more than 20 years for homicide and political activism is believed to have disappeared again into police custody, this time after staging a protest in Tibet’s capital Lhasa against Chinese rule in Tibetan areas.” said the report in the Radio Free Asia on Tuesday.
Lodroe Gyatso aka Sogkar Lodroe vanished after he staged a peaceful protest in front of the Potala Palace in Lhasa on Jan. 28, 2018 following which he had vanished and his family and relatives fear that the Chinese may have rearrested him for the protest.
The source of the report has informed that the former political prisoner had planned to stage a peaceful protest calling for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet and for world peace through demilitarization. Though there is no exact witness of what has happened in Lhasa, it is thought that he has been detained for raising political slogans.
Convicted in 1991 of killing a man in a fight, Gyatso spent 21 years behind bars, with his original 15-year sentence extended for engaging in political activism while incarcerated, according the RFA in its earlier reports. Though he was released in 2013, he was jailed again for being critical of Chinese authorities, beaten and tortured by the police and finally released in July 2016.
