Dalai Lama Was Not the Target of Explosives Found in Bodh Gaya

Following the primary investigation of live explosives found at Bodh Gaya on late Friday evening, the officials have announced that the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama was not the target behind the bombs planted. The police and intelligence treated the issue with utmost sensitivity and appealed the public to remain calm and cooperative.

The police and intelligence officials looking into the case told that the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama was not the target of the explosives planted but suggested that it could have targeted Buddhists.

“The Dalai Lama does not appear to have been the target as he was not scheduled to cross the routes where the two bombs were placed. But Buddhists could have been the target. There is a heavy inflow of monks during evening prayer. The second bomb, found opposite Mahabodhi Society, is on the route of the monks,” said a police officer according to the Indian Express.

The police also told that they have taken the issue very seriously as it was the first time that such a heavy amount of explosives were placed there with each explosive comprising of about 7kg of ammonium nitrate that could have caused medium scale damage.

“We have to take it seriously. In each explosive, about 7kg of ammonium nitrate appears to have been used and then the explosive was placed in thermos-like containers. It may not be a case of security breach, it is surely a serious security lapse,” added the police officer claiming that it was of sheer luck to have found it in time.

The Bihar police further informed that they have reviewed the security of His Holiness the Dalai Lama after the incident and posted two additional SPs and as many deputy SPs in charge of his security for his stay in Bodhgaya till February 1.

According to a CCTV footage, the investigators now believe that the culprits could have taken help from the local people as they found three local people holding a bag that looked suspicious and suggested that they are now looking for a terror group other than IM and SIMI involved in 2013 Bodhgaya blasts.
