Advanced Museum Coming Up To Preserve Tibet’s History

An advanced museum is coming up in the headquarter of Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamshala, India and it aims to preserve Tibet’s history for many years to come. According to the press conference briefed by the President of CTA, Dr. Lobsang Sangay, the new Tibet museum will be completed by the end of this year.

“The Tibet Museum of Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) organised a press conference today to inform the public about its new Tibet Museum project. The new Tibet Museum will be based at the Tibet Building currently under construction at Gangchen Kyishong.” said the official report in the website of Central Tibetan Administration on Friday.

President Sangay told at the press conference that the advanced museum is a part of the Tibetan government in exile’s five fifty vision which plans to achieve genuine autonomy for Tibet through the Middle Way Approach in the next five years while at the same time if that does not succeed, it also strategises to strengthen and sustain our cause for the next 50 years. The Tibet Museum’s exhibition of Tibetan cultural and historical facts and artifacts can strengthen the Tibet narrative on the global stage.

“Raising awareness about Tibet is pivotal to strengthening international support for the Tibet issue. The Tibet Museum will present Tibet’s sixty years of tragic history under Chinese occupation and the several thousand years of history as an independent nation to build an understanding of what happened to Tibet under China,” President Sangay explained saying that the museum will also serve as a center of truth that will convey the tragic fate of Tibet and would let the visitors experience the destruction and the suffering that Tibetans went through under Chinese occupation.

With regard to this project, the department is planning to finance one Tibetan student willing to pursue studies in museology or related to museum management, who will later work at the Tibet Museum for at least three years. They also announced that they host a Museum concept notes competition where the winner will be awarded a Rs. 1 Lakh prize in March.

The new museum will constitute around 11 themes of Tibet’s history and culture, extending the existing Tibet Museum in McLeod Ganj, which is not able to accommodate any more additions due to space limitations there. While almost half of the total required budget of 600 Lakh rupees, almost of that has been sourced, the department has invited individual Tibetans willings to contribute in this project to inspire others. The planned museum will be housed in the Tibet Building which is near completion at Gangchen Kyishong in Dharamshala.
