Miss Tibet 2017 Draws Record Number Of 9 Contestants

Miss Tibet 2017 draws record number of 9 contestants as the pageant host unveiled the participants in a press conference at Dharamsala today. This year’s version of the Miss Tibet pageant has attracted a record high number of contestants from across United States, Europe and India. All the contestants are aged in the range of 20 years old to 25 years old.

The event is scheduled to be held from 2nd June to 4th June, 2017. The contest will be held in seven rounds: Swimsuit (Day one), Talk and Talent (Day two), Introduction, Gown, Traditional costume and Interview (Finale night).

“The topic for the Talk round is chosen by lottery, drawn an hour before the round starts. Each contestant is given the choice to speak on a topic from one of two options they pick in the lottery. The topics are all on Tibet and Tibetan-related issues, such as Tibetan history, culture, language, human rights, environment, women, activism, etc. In the Talent round, the contestants have to perform an act with no bar in language. The performance would be a minimum of three minutes to maximum five minutes long. ” according to the official website of Miss Tibet.

The nine young contestants are Chime Kyizom, 20 from New Delhi, Migmar Dolma, 22 from New York, Saldon from Austria, Tenzin Khechoe, 22 from Bangalore, Tenzin Nordon, 20 from Chauntra, Tenzin Norzom, 22 from Manali, India, Tenzin Paldon, 21 from Kollegal, Tenzin Yeshi, 20 and Tenzin Yangkyi, 25 from Bylakuppe, South India.

This winner of the Miss Tibet 2017 wins a cash prize of one lakh rupees and this prize for the current version is being sponsored by Tenzin Charlie from Taiwan. The first and second runners who will be rewarded with cash prizes of fifty thousands and twenty five thousands respectively. This amount for the current version of the event is being sponsored by Tenpa Dorjee from California.

This is the 15th version of Miss Tibet pageant which started in the year 2002 has been one of the most popular events to look at in the Tibetan head quarters Dharamsala. The pageant organized by Lobsang Wangyal has also been able send its winners to various international platforms hence creating significant awareness about the Tibet issue across the world. China has also been wary of the pageant’s growing popularity and significance not only in the Tibetan community but also at the international stage.
