Chinese model cancels Cannes amfAR Gala to avoid Auction Lot On Dalai Lama. This year’s amfAR Gala Cannes featured the Tibetan Spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama in their auction lots and this does not seem to have taken soundly by one of the performing participants, Ming Xi as she pulled out of the event.
“Chinese model Ming Xi pulled out of a runway performance at the annual amfAR Gala Cannes on May 25 after amfAR published an Instagram post two days earlier noting that it would auction off a meeting with the Dalai Lama, the most prominent leader in Tibetan Buddhism.” said the news article in Jing Daily.
The amfAR Gala Cannes is a event more than two decades which had featured global stars to raise fund for charity. This year’s star guests includes the likes of Nicole Kidman, Dustin Hoffman and Jessica Chastain making it one of the most star studded philanthropic events. It also saw the live performance from Nicki Minaj while football legend David Beckham also hopped in to extend his support for the event. It was being held at Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France.

“The second auction lot, pictured here, is a 2015 photograph by pioneering artist @chrislevine_artist on the occasion of the Dalai Lama’s 80th birthday, using a 3D light technology akin to the one the artist used in his famed 2012 portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.” shared by the official instagram account of amfAR two days before the event.” added the post.
The Chinese model has taken the issue political over this lot relating to the Dalai Lama and withdrew from participating in the honourable philanthropic event. Chinese artists take very strict caution regarding the issues concerning to Tibet and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. China accuse the Dalai Lama as a separatist following his escape to exile from Tibet after Chinese invasion. The Chinese government is known to have strict reactions against people having any connection with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
