Cambodia PM Bans Raising Tibetan, Taiwanese Flags

Cambodia PM bans raising Tibetan, Taiwanese flag in his country. Hun Sen, Cambodia Prime Minister has said that his government will not allow Taiwanese and Tibetan flags to be raised in Cambodia. Sen spoke at a friendly dinner at Cambodian-Chinese Association on Saturday that the flags of Tibet and Taiwan can not be raised in China.

“Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has said that his government will not allow Taiwanese and Tibetan flags to be raised in Cambodia.” said the report in the Bangkok Post.

“We shall not do anything that harms the sovereignty and independence of China because of Taiwan (or Tibet),” he said explaining the logic that Cambodia must respect the sovereignty and independence of China when China does the same for Cambodia; Taiwan which in his terms he described simply as a province of China.

“The premier, however, said that for commercial and trading purpose, Taiwanese activities are welcomed, but not political or diplomatic activities.” said the report.

Taiwan is ruled by an independent government which recently completed its phase of elections where the pro-democratic candidate Tsai Ing Wen won the government. The Taiwanese activists protest against the unprecedented influence and control in Taiwan governance from Beijing and they demand for genuine autonomy of the state.

Tibet is presently the most well known exile in the world with His Holiness the Dalai Lama based in India protesting against the Chinese invasion over Tibet since the 1950s. Tibetan people with the largest population being based inside Tibet itself has around 150 thousand Tibetans spread across the world struggling against China for genuine autonomy.
