Tibetans comes together for the victim of Delhi market fire

 

On the wee hour of 8 November, fire engulfed the Tibetan Lal Qila market in New Delhi razing the whole market to the ground. Along with the138 shops, livelihood of hundreds of Tibetan families were completely destroyed. Winter sweater selling is the sole annual income source for many Tibetans-in-exile and such tragic incident exposes them to immense debt, poverty and threat to basic livelihood.

Central Tibetan Administration has taken initiative in rebuilding the market so that the shopkeepers can use the remaining time of the winter season.The Kashag has sanction ₹15 lacs for immediate reconstruction and Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay who has taken a personal initiative in the relief efforts, expressed profound sadness over the incident. Sikyong assured that the Central Tibetan Administration will do its best to provide support for the Tibetan shopkeepers.

Tibetan Youth Congress president Tenzing Jigme along Rtyc Delhi President visited the market site and donated donated ₹ 1 lakh and also assured of more help in the coming days.
