Dharamshala, 27th October: In Gujarat’s Kutch district, a 70-year-old mother gave birth to a healthy baby a month ago. Jivuben Rabari, from Kutch, and her husband Valjibhai Rabari, 75, had their first child, a son called Lalo, last month via Caesarean section. The couple, who had been married for 45 years, had been trying for a child for decades without success until conceiving their first child through In-Vitro Fertilisation(IVF).
Ms. Rabari’s hospital admission records did not include a date of birth since she does not have any documents to show her age, such as a voter ID or birth certificate, which is a typical problem in rural India. Doctors, on the other hand, reported she claimed to be around 70 years old.
Ms. Rabari, a milk farmer from Rapar, around 100 kilometers from Bhuj, begged doctors to look past her age and undertake the procedure because she was anxious to have a child. Dr. Bhanushali said Ms. Rabari approached him around a year and a half ago after four members of her family had successfully conceived through his IVF treatments.
Ms. Rabari had been post-menopausal for nearly 20 years, so physicians had to expand her uterus and give her hormone therapies to get her menstruating again. The physicians then used IVF to transplant a single embryo. Blood testing 15 days later confirmed that she had conceived successfully.
The treatment as well as the post-operative care went off without a hitch. Lalo, the infant boy, was detained in the NICU for 15 days before both mother and kid were allowed to return home. While doctors took great care to check her hemoglobin and brought in critical care specialists such as cardiologists to ensure no issues emerged, doctors noted the successful birth was an outlier.
