55 Hotels In Dharamshala Declared Illegal Told To Shutdown By Court

55 Dharamshala hotels have been declared as illegal and now ordered to be shut down according to a court order on Monday. The Pollution Control Board regional officer has carried out the inspection of the hotels and other establishments in Dharamsala, McLeodganj and Naddi as per the direction from High Court in response to a PIL.

“The Himachal Pradesh High Court has ordered the Dharamshala administration to shut down 55 hotels and establishments running illegally in Dharamshala and the surrounding areas of McLeod Ganj and Naddi, and directed authorities to disconnect electricity and water supplies to the hotels.” said a report published yesterday.

The Pollution Control Board regional officer was directed by the High court to carry out an inspection of the hotels and other establishments in Dharamsala, McLeodganj and Naddi as it was noticed that many are running without seeking requisite sanctions.

“Prominent hotels affected in McLeod Ganj are: Ashoka Guest House, Hunted Hill House, Moon Walk Residency, Norbu House, Hotel President Inn, Black Magic Hotel, Zambala House, and Hotel Asian Plaza.” added the report.

The order of inspection came as a result of a Public Interest Litigation filed over the issue of degrading of environment in Parwanoo by industrial units. During the course of its hearing, the situation in Dharamsala, McLeodganj and the surrounding areas was worse than that of Parwanoo was brought into the light and it led to this order against all the hotels and other establishments in the area.
