Former capital of Tibet, the Shigatse city on early Monday morning was rocked by a 5.8 magnitude earthquake. While the natural hazard struck the Tibetan city around three thirty in the morning, there are no casualties reported according to the authorities.
After the powerful jolts from the 5.8 magnitude earthquake in the
Xaitongmoin County in Shigatse at 3.32 a.m, more than 2100 people have been evacuated to safety.
“More than 2,100 people were evacuated after a 5.8-magnitude earthquake jolted Xigaze city in Tibet autonomous region early on Monday, authorities said.” said the report in Xinhua on Monday.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) said the epicenter was measured at 30.32 degrees North latitude and 87.64 degrees East longitude. The quake struck at a depth of 8 km.
The investigators deployed by the authorities found cracks on some rural houses and damage on some live-stock sheds in the county. The local governments prepared tents, quilts, coats and medical supplies for the affected people.
