47 More Chinese Apps Banned In India, Now 106 Apps Banned

Not more than a month after the ban of almost 60 Chinese apps by India, a second batch of 47 Chinese apps have been banned. According to the breaking reports, India has banned almost 50 Chinese apps today. Though the list of these 47 apps are not known, the sources of major Indian news agencies suggest that it will be released soon.

Near the end of June this year, 59 Chinese apps including popular ones such as TikTok, WeChat, ShareIt, etc. were banned the Indian government citing threat to national interest. Today another batch of 47 Chinese apps has been banned as these were operating as clones of those previously banned apps! The move has huge economic impact on Chinese tech companies an average of 300 million unique users in India.

The information technology ministry said that the decision was taken “in view of the information available they are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.”, according the reports.

The two Asian countries has been engaged in a protracted border dispute. Starting with a tension along the borders of Sikkim in May this year, a long running dispute has been going on among the Galwan region of Ladakh. The Chinese army has been intruding into different regions in the border to claim them as a part of their territory. The two armies got into one of the worst clashes in June and the situation is still not resolved despite peaceful agreements at various levels of talks.

With the growing tension along the borders, anti China sentiments is brewing stronger than ever among the Indian. Boycott of Made in China products are echoing stronger than ever in the country. With the imposition of ban on Chinese apps, people are promoting similar apps made in India.
